Maverick's Team hold on for Win!
![]() Stops last minute push by the Poet's! |
August 9, 1998
For the fourth (4th) straight year, this Maverick Team has stolen the spotlight.
After the first game of the second set, the Mavericks "STAR" team was holding a
commanding lead. Unfortunately, the second game result was the opposite and open
the gate for any would be preditor. At that time, the Poet's team was smelling blood
and looking for an upset. But the Maverick team was determine to finish strong.
And strong they did. The Maverick team kept marking, from the 5th frame, leaving no
opening for the Poet team. This victory came down to the last bowler in the last
frame of the last game. Herman Lee Jr., tenth frame shot, hit the pocket (Solid) but
left the 10 pin. The crowd let out a sigh! Herman Lee, taking his time, commenced to
roll the ball and made the spare. The Maverick's won this tournament by less the 19
pins. This lastest victory, put the MAVERICKS and this Maverick TEAM in the record
books with the Most Consecutive Club Wins at the ICBC Tournament and for the Most
Consecutive Wins by a team.
The best win (based on this writer opinion) of them all was #3 at Kings Point. This was the Classical "Come from behind!" win you would ever want to see. As the saying goes "You had to be there to see it!".
Down by almost 100 pins, going into the second game of the second set, this team kept their head's high, commencing to close the gap and won the tournament.
The point here, is that you could see and feel the momentum swing from the Poets to the Mavericks. Everybody there saw it! And second, I would say the most important one is, "Never give up!"
