BARCROFT SCHOOL TUTORING
It's time to resume our tutoring and mentoring efforts at Barcroft Elementary School in Arlington, VA (located near Route 50 and George Mason Dr., 10 minutes from Court House Rd). You can make a big difference in a child's life by spending one hour per week with a student. (Opportunities also available for occasional assistance.) BALTIMORE CITY ..... Pride of Baltimore Inc.'s educational program, 'Maryland with PRIDE' explores the history, geography, and ecology of the state. The program is targetted at 4th graders and is being offered free throughout Md. via the Internet. Volunteers are needed as 'Internet coaches' to show children how to access the Internet and use the curriculum. Required commitment: work with students for 4 weekly sessions starting immediately. Each 60-90 min. session will be planned during the normal school day, 9a.m-3p.m. Sessions are scheduled at a mutually-agreed-to time. THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING AND EXPLOITED CHILDREN (NCMEC), located in Arlington, Va., needs volunteers. As the nation's resource center for child protection, the NCMEC spearheads national efforts to locate and recover missing children and raise public awareness about ways to prevent child abduction, molestation, and sexual exploitation. A private, non-profit organization established in 1984, NCMEC operates under a Congressional mandate and works in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Individuals are needed in many areas of support including clerical, computer, web page development, hotline, and data entry. Check out NCMEC's web stie which has current photos.
